Society Vincent de Paul

Society of St Vincent de Paul

The Parish Conference of the Society concerns itself with the poor and needy and is associated with the main body of the Society which is international and was established in Paris in 1833.

The principal work of the Conference is the supply of food, clothing and material assistance to poverty stricken families and individuals, and the furnishing of these goods to abandoned children and orphanage institutions and those who are homeless.

It is an ongoing implementation of Christ’s command to serve God through serving the poor. All work is done on a pro deo basis and spiritual dependence on God is the cornerstone of the work done.

The Society commenced in South Africa in 1856 - today has Conference in most parishes. The role of the Society in the parish is to serve the poor and needy on behalf of the entire parish community.
